Seoul's 2027 World Youth Day Task Force Plans

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is establishing a comprehensive, pan-departmental Support Task Force for the 2027 World Youth Day, led by the First Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs. Expected to begin full operations by the second half of this year, the task force will coordinate across numerous city departments, local districts, and educational offices to manage the massive scale of the upcoming international event.

The task force's strategy is organized around five core areas: accommodation and catering, safety and medical care, culture and tourism, transportation, and administrative support. To manage an estimated 500,000 attendees, the city plans to repurpose non-residential facilities like schools and churches for lodging and meals. Furthermore, the city will prioritize safe crowd management, establish joint emergency response centers with police and fire departments, issue participant-exclusive transit passes to ease traffic, and integrate the gathering with Seoul's major cultural festivals. As preparations advance, the task force is expected to grow, eventually involving nearly all city departments to ensure full coverage.
